Works are to commence at historic Greenfield House in Alloa.
The Council is aiming to secure the future of the B-listed building in the town’s Greenfield Park by funding initial repair works.
The works are part of the Council’s wider investment programme connected to the City Region Deal, in which we aim to leverage more than £5.5m to develop and celebrate our county’s rich culture, heritage and tourism roots.
Contractors Procast Building Contractors Ltd have been appointed to carry out phase one and two of the works, which will make the building wind and watertight.
The repairs, due to start this spring, are part of a phased approach to refurbish the three-storey property over several years.
Councillor Jane McTaggart, depute spokesperson for place, said: “I am delighted this beautiful and important historic building is to be repaired by the Council.
“I know there is a lot of hard work going on in the background with the aim of securing the building’s long-term future, including options to secure external funding, and I am looking forward to hearing how those plans develop in the coming months.”
Greenfield House was designed by Edinburgh Architects, A G Sydney Mitchell and Watson and built between 1892 and 1894 for David Thomson, the Deputy Lieutenant of Clackmannanshire at the time.
The house was extended in 1914 after a mystery fire and was later sold to Alloa Town Council. Further development to the building received a commendation from the Civic Trust. From 1987 to 2014 Greenfield was the headquarters of Clackmannanshire Council.
