St Mungo’s RC Primary will permanently relocate to its current site of a shared campus with Alloa Academy, following a decision at a meeting of the Council  (28 November).

After a previous Council decision, it was agreed to temporarily decant St Mungo’s from its previous location to Alloa Academy in April 2018, as a result of water ingress in the school and the impact on the children and staff.

Councillors heard at Thursday’s meeting, that as required by legislation, a consultation into the permanent relocation was carried out during the course of 2024 and a report was submitted to Education Scotland. Following receipt of the consultation report, Education Scotland HM Inspectors provided an independent report considering the educational aspects, taking account of the views expressed by consultees. The Council, as the Education Authority, then provided its response to the HMIE Education Scotland report.
The meeting discussed the educational benefits of maintaining St Mungo’s within the campus. These include access to modern, inclusive and specialist facilities that are not available to many other primary schools in Clackmannanshire.

Like all educational establishments, St Mungo’s will remain under review in line with the Council’s ambition to ensure that the Learning Estate is supportive and conducive to our children and young people’s learning.

Council also agreed to declare the former St Mungo’s site at Forth Crescent, Alloa surplus to requirements of the School Estate.

Cllr Graham Lindsay, Spokesperson for Education said: “This decision provides much needed certainty for the school communities of St Mungo’s RC Primary and Alloa Academy. St Mungo’s is a high performing school and has continued to significantly improve its educational outcomes within the current setting. Work will continue to take place to enhance the facilities and operation of the school.

“Any future adaptations will be considered and reviewed within the Learning Estate Strategy.”

Moving forward, Education staff will continue to work in partnership with the school communities and stakeholders to best meet the needs of learners.
