Clackmannanshire Council and our Forth Valley partners are taking part in the global 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence campaign.

The campaign takes place every year, starting on Monday, 25 November, The International Day of No Violence Against Women, and finishes on 10 December, Human Rights Day.

This year’s launch event is taking place at Alloa Town Hall on Monday where our councillors will sign the White Ribbon pledge.

There will also be guest speakers, a youth led workshop and a march in Alloa Town centre immediately after the launch event.

Throughout the 16 days, the Council is hosting and promoting a packed programme of activities, including events, stalls and training to demonstrate our commitment to prevent and eradicate violence against women and girls, as well as other gender based violence.

This year’s 16 Days of Activism Programme centres on community, creativity, and inclusivity. Events will highlight the transformative power of the arts and amplify the voices of young people and those with lived experiences.

Awareness work with pupils in our schools is a key strand of the campaign.

Councillor Ellen Forson, leader of the council,  said: “I am proud of the work we are doing with partners within the Violence Against Women and Girls Partnership.  We are seeing real progress by working together to look at supports, prevention, and communication, but more needs to be done.

"Playing an active part in the 16 Days of Activism and particularly the involvement of our young people in the launch event at the Town Hall and leading the march around Alloa’s key landmarks, puts a real focus on the importance that we are putting on this year’s campaign.

"At the event, Councillors will be asked to sign the White Ribbon Pledge showing their commitment.”
