The Council is joining with partners in the Clackmannanshire Alliance to hold events during Challenge Poverty Week – the annual national awareness campaign led by Poverty Alliance which begins on Monday 7 October.

During the week, local partners will join with communities to raise awareness of the impacts of poverty in Clackmannanshire and share information on the projects and services that are available to support individuals and families.

Drop-in events are being held with advice on income maximisation, energy and housing support, as well as community cafes, breakfast clubs and more. In addition, a Roundtable Discussion on Challenging Poverty has been organised to bring together local leaders to look at next steps for taking action in Clackmannanshire.

Council Leader and Chair of the Clackmannanshire Alliance, Cllr Ellen Forson said: “Poverty can have a devastating effect on lives, forcing difficult sacrifices in order just to get by. Some families remain caught in a cycle of poverty, which is only made worse by the rising cost of living. We remain committed to ending the injustice of poverty across Clackmannanshire and want to see communities where everyone can achieve their potential, regardless of their background.

“I am pleased to be bringing together local partners at the Roundtable event to assess our progress in the ongoing fight against poverty, and where we should be focussing our attention going forward to make the most impact.  I hope residents will also become involved in the activities taking place locally to find out more about the help and support available in our communities.”

Information on events taking place is on social media channels and our website.
