The Council has agreed at a meeting today (3 October) to consider a range of possible actions, including the making of a referral to the Procurator Fiscal, against the owner of Carsebridge House in Alloa, Advance Construction (Scotland) Limited.
Carsebridge House was a B-listed 18th century building and was badly damaged in a fire on 29 August. Notwithstanding the listed building status the owner, Advance Construction (Scotland) Limited, proceeded, without any formal consent, to demolish Carsebridge House.
Upon notification of the demolition works planning officers attended Carsebridge House on 18 September 2024, in an attempt to halt the demolition works by Advance Construction (Scotland) Limited and/or its contractors without success.
Council officers have and will continue to work with Police Scotland and Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.
The Motion brought to Council by Councillor Graham Lindsay, was unanimously approved, and confirmed: “This building was of significant historical and architectural interest locally and nationally”.
Councillor Lindsay continued: “While I appreciate that the building was in a poor condition following the devastating fire, and an application to demolish had been submitted, the demolition work last month was carried out without consent of this Council. Those responsible should be held fully to account.”
Council agreed that a report on possible next steps should be prepared and presented to the planning committee.
