Council has agreed to allocate its available taxi plates to wheelchair accessible vehicles (WAVs).
At a meeting of the Council’s regulatory committee, it was also agreed that when there are less than eight wheelchair accessible taxis in the area, new operator licences would only be granted to WAVS.
This is to ensure at least 15 per cent of the taxi fleet is accessible.
Currently there are four licensed taxis in Clackmannanshire that are wheelchair accessible, representing 7.27% of the currently available taxi operators licences.
None of the existing WAV taxis operate on a Sunday.
Council hopes that adopting the new policy will go a long way to resolving the situation, both in the short term and in the future.
